Sunday, September 21, 2008 it's the chance you give your friends to catch you.
I was slightly disappointed at myself for entertaining the thought of not going to an aunt's place because I thought I had too much work to do. I guess I do have quite abit to get done, but that doesn't mean I don't make time for friends and family, because afterall, they are the ones who will see you through all that you do, and they are the ones who will make all the pain worthwhile. In the course of last week, John and I realised that next week will be our last official week of lessons. The thought is extremely daunting, that the year has just flown past, and what a roller coaster academic year it has been. With hostel, night lessons, APs, room mates, boyfriends, girlfriends, new friends, old friends, new perspectives, flying, the list goes on. I initially decided that I didn't want to apply for Beijing since I wanted a break this holidays, but somehow, they ended up asking a bunch of us to apply, so with the approval of Tansk, I decided to go ahead and apply, and I think in the process just sold away all my days pre-beijing, which I don't mind. But that also meant that FHT will be november, which (worst of all) meant that flying stops in november. ): ): ): argh. I need to start finding a new anchor in my life. Oh yes, well done john, the talk went good. :D AND, thanks mh and hari for my belated birthday presents. I feel loved, and mh your card makes me laugh everytime I read it, the way you do generally. :D IF later. whoopeedoo. No matter how hard you fight it, you fall. And it's scary as hell. If there's an upside to free-falling, it's the chance you give your friends to catch you. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 We're done for the week (more or less)
Thanks to rachel, I am extremely tempted to start watching Grey's again, cause she keeps quoting the show, and now I am reading the quotes too and missing mcdreamy and mcspicy and whoever else. A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying. That's probably why I should not and cannot ever give up. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Why?
It really is quite true that family is where you learn the most important of skills sometimes. I think staying in the hostel this past year has brought me closer to friends, but made me rather rusty at lots of skills I pick up from living at home. Having to deal and live with 6 other people is not something I've been doing alot of this year, that might be why all that happened, or maybe all of it was just to teach me how to love despite of, to look beyond a person's flaws and still be able to look for the best in him or her, and love him or her for who he or she is. All this happened to make me a better person. Of course, also maybe it happens because it is very often through such situations that you appreciate the siblings and friends around you that much more. Thanks dajie and leeksus for being there, and johno for replying to my messages even at such queer hours of the morning. flying tomorrow! So much to do, so little time?
It's strange really. Sometimes I really wonder. Friday, September 12, 2008 Change
Some time back, Johno asked me if I thought he changed, and the conversation was rather thought-provoking. Everything that we discussed, and I guess we came to the conclusion that we're all changing, everyday, every minute, every second. In the course of the week, there was a night of rushing English until 2 in the morning, and the earliest I slept was 1. Yiwei says she thinks it's cause I'm wasting some of my time, that that's why I'm left sleeping at that sort of hour every night, but somehow, (at this point in time), I don't think that's all that true. I probably have been wasting my time in terms of not having spent all my time with the books (although I've been spending ALOT of time with them this week), but I don't find that it's a waste. I don't know, it might be harder on me now, but maintain friendships and relationships all take time. Time which we would have to take away from studying, but might be worthwhile cause when all this ends, they are the ones who are going to make life worthwhile. (: Thursday, September 11, 2008 running across the fiel, clementi, microwaving mango, (x
It has been insanity since I got back to the hostel on sunday, when while waiting for renee to send me the english report, and studying for inorganic chem quiz, and attempting e and m homework, I slept at 2am, telling myself that it will be fine cause I will sleep early monday night since I was planned to fly on Tuesday. Then, on monday, guess which genius when to check the met service which told her that there was going to be a 60% chance of thunderstorm on tuesday. So, I thought I won't get to fly, so decided to work into the night, finishing my group's english essay. It's not cause my group didn't help, most of them stayed up late to give me moral support I think. (x THANKS RENEE, for also sleeping even later than me to finish up the powerpoint. Hmm, so I went to sleep at 1.30am with a flight the following day and being as good as unprepared for it. In the morning, sent out my sos sms to ziyang to ask for low level crash course, thanks kheezyy! :D Then school was just quite a blur, and in the end, because lux was sick we didn't present for english. I felt bleargh at that point. Low level was actually not too bad, but short-field seems scary. :S I was very proud of my body for holding up after two nights of such generous amounts of sleep. It actually maintained rationality throughout the flight. I came back to school only to realise that the liberal arts talk which I signed up for was that night, and managed to catch up a little bit with hari. yay. (x AFTER liberal arts talk, it was off to the library for stats meeting, cause I project is due today. After which I went back up to my room to attempt to do the e and m assignment but ended up giving up more or less. Yesterday was more or less emotional low, but today has been a surprisingly good day. Despite e and m quiz, IR meetings, bleargh. It has lots of memories that I guess I'd like to cherish I guess. Stuff that I'll miss next year. ): Firstly, when I stepped out of my room today, the first bell just rang, and there was quite a dash with maehwee across the field in order to save ourselves. (x Then there was our sports quiz. fleming got second! Yay, well done hanisah, mr soh and yangxuan. :D my house is awfully quiet though. time to infect them and wake them up a little bit though. Next thing was our usual wednesday outing. Although Weicheng didn't join us, there was johno and he was wearing the pink shirt we got him. :D clementi carrot cake also. yay. Last thing that made me smile today. my dearest room mate and my attempt to eat a mango that her relatives gave her. (: It was hard you know why? It was sour and frozen, and we didn't have a normal knife. Hahahahahaha! Yeap, it's been a long, tiring, good day. 1.42 am, we are ALMOST done with stats. Tomorrow after school will be spent at blood donation and studying for the organic chem test on friday. Friday after school will be spent at national dental centre, then studying for the polar test on saturday. saturday and sunday will hopefully be spent on flying, IR, family, friends. (x Studying for the tests in the following week, namely: inorganic chem test, stats test, chinese test... I think I am missing something. then the tests the following week: calculus based e and m, calculus based mechanics. ): GO MEEE! (and everybody else mugging for end of years/promos) Sunday, September 07, 2008 Life is short!
It REALLY seemed like yesterday that we were sitting in that briefing room being told all the stats and being shown our external checks for the first time, being fascinated by this yellow and blue machine that we were told we were going to *ahem* fly. It's so so fast.
(everyone look at my cheesecake birthday cake. :D:D:D hahahaha, i know i'm being childish.) Also, SERIOUSLY, wasn't it just like last week that we were moving into hostel? And we're like moving out soon? NOOOO, firstly, cause I'll like grow fat with home food everyday, and secondly cause I've really come to enjoy hostel, my room mate
Okay, now time to do something from renee. it's some list of questions but apparently you can't post the question unless the person decides to do it then you can send the person the question, yeah, so I asked to see the question so now I have to do it. 1. Nobody (:
HAHAHAHAHA, I forgot something really quite important: (nevermind cause he won't see this) HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN! Thanks a million for EVERYTHING
A big big thanks to these people (: layout by: hilary header by: sealedcards
